A gentle but steady hike up into the mountains reveals a variety of mountain terrain, and a well-maintained path leads you right to the Lower Cedar Lake. You will feel like you are the only people on earth as you explore the lake nestled in between rocky crags of mountains jutting up all around. Take a relaxing break, swim in the lake and then have a picnic as you enjoy the absolute silence of the wilderness, Montana huckleberries and more. Then hike on...

Upper Cedar Lake

Upper Cedar lake is an even more amazing vista (really - is that possible?) to behold and a hotspot for a couples getaway or first-time visitor destination near our remote bed and breakfast in Troy, Montana.

Anytime you hike, you should always be prepared for the unknown. Practice good hiking safety by carrying the right gear and supplies, and especially telling someone where you are hiking and when you plan to return.

Northwest Montana has some truly unspoiled beauty! We are happy to give you some advice on local hikes and hidden spots. And we have some hiking books here at the lodge that guests are welcome to use.

Montana is wild. I mean, really wild. Be aware of your surroundings and enjoy the amazing scenery and wildlife that our corner of the state has to offer.

Explore! The Kootenai National Forest and Yaak National Forest have some of the most pristine and untouched wilderness in the country. Be sure to save some time for exploring during your visit!
